Hearts of Iron

I’ve recently been tinkering with shrubs; the delightful fresh fruit and vinegar ingredients are a great way to introduce acidity and sweetness into cocktails. It’s like simple and fruit juice in one! We tried combining the shrub with another recent acquisition, St. George’s NOLA Coffee Liquor, and found that the two play well together. The St. George’s is no slouch and can easily overwhelm many other ingredients in cocktails, so it took some tinkering to come up with something that works.

The Hearts of Iron is based on the Last Word principle: combine a bunch of powerful ingredients that just shouldn’t work together, and they just do. Also I’ve been completely addicted to Hearts of Iron IV! What an awesome game…

Finally the strawberry shrub was done for me to try this out. I didn’t have the exact ingredients (Olmeca Teq, White Bacardi, Borghetti espresso liqueur, homemade Falernum) but the final results were fantastic.
Thank you so much. I would never have thought of coffee! 🙂
